Vi-l prezentăm pe Daniel, voluntar într-un proiect al programului „European Solidarity Corps – ESC” din Arad, România, coordonat de Ofensiva Tinerilor. Citește articolul său pentru a descoperi gândurile și impresiile inițiale ale lui Daniel despre călătoria sa de voluntariat.
”Am destul de multă experiență în proiecte Erasmus. Unele – mai frumoase, altele nu atât de frumoase, unele – mai interesante, altele poate nu atât de interesante. Mulți spun: „Ei bine, da, acesta este Erasmus, să experimentezi orice și totul, să înveți mai mult și să fii o versiune mai bună a ta.”
Totuși, în prezent mă aflu într-o experiență de voluntariat complet diferită de toate cele anterioare. Sincer, sunt confuz, dar și plăcut surprins. Trăiesc cu „colegi de cameră”. Probabil ai văzut ghilimelele și deja ceva ți se pare ciudat. Da, dacă ne ghidăm după expresiile formale – suntem toți colegi de cameră aici, dar în practică nu este chiar așa, deoarece trăim ca o comunitate și ne numim frați. Literalmente, mâncăm aceeași pâine.
Cu tot respectul pentru toate celelalte organizații cu care am avut experiențe, aș spune că organizația Ofensiva Tinerilor este una dintre puținele organizații pe care le-am întâlnit personal și care pune voluntarii pe un loc de mare importanță și are o relație prietenoasă cu aceștia.
Și da, experiența de voluntariat ESC este grozavă atunci când auzi că ai fost selectat să participi, dar când vine momentul să te împachetezi și să pleci – nu este atât de interesant, știind că vei fi undeva departe timp de 9,5 luni. Că va trebui să îți lași familia, prietenii și tot ce mai ai și să mergi undeva unde va trebui să te obișnuiești cu o situație complet diferită, cu oameni complet noi, cu o nouă rutină, noi reguli, o limbă nouă, un mediu necunoscut… și când ajungi, te confrunți cu cel mai greu lucru: următoarele 9 luni și jumătate – aceasta este realitatea ta. Dar de data aceasta nu a fost cazul pentru mine, deoarece lucrurile sunt întotdeauna foarte diferite, dacă în momente de dificultate îți amintești că întotdeauna există cineva alături de tine la care te poți adresa pentru sfaturi, cineva care te sprijină constant și te înțelege sincer. Și în cazul meu este organizația mea de trimitere: Volunteer Center Skopje.
Ce am de spus tuturor celor care vor să facă voluntariat undeva? Există atâtea proiecte, organizații „de trimitere” și „de primire” în jurul lumii câte dorești, nu este o problemă să găsești ceva pentru tine astăzi, dar nu considera acest text ca pe cineva care doar se laudă cu totul și toți cei din jurul lui, ci, după cum spune vorba: „Ascultă un prost, nu un ghicitor.” Am 8 ani de experiență în proiecte, dar doar în acest proiect de aici trăiesc ceea ce mi-am imaginat mereu (deși, nu aș spune că sunt foarte creativ când vine vorba de tăiat, desenat și făcut origami, dar important este că vreau să învăț, iar toți cei din jurul meu mă susțin și mă ajută cât pot de mult).”

A completely different experience: ESC in Romania
Meet Daniel, a volunteer in a project of the „European Solidarity Corps – ESC” program in Arad, Romania, which lasts more than 9 months and is coordinated by Ofensiva Tinerilor. Read his article to discover Daniel’s initial thoughts and impressions of his volunteering journey:
”I have quite a lot of experience in Erasmus projects. Some – more beautiful, some not so beautiful, some – more interesting, some maybe not so interesting. Many say: „Well, yes, that’s Erasmus, to experience anything and everything, to learn more and to be a better version of yourself.”
However, I am currently on a completely different volunteering experience than all the previous ones. I am honestly confused, but also positively surprised. I live with „roommates”. You must have seen the quotation marks and already something is strange to you. Yes, if we are guided by formal expressions – we are all roommates here, but in practice it is not exactly like that, because we live as a community, and we call each other brothers. We literally eat the same bread.
With all due respect to all the other organizations he has had experience with, I would say that the Ofensiva Tinerior organization is one of the few organizations I have personally met that puts volunteers in a high place of importance and has a friendly relationship with them.
And yes, the ESC-volunteer experience is great when you hear that you’ve been selected to participate, but when it’s time to pack up and leave – it’s not that interesting, knowing that you’ll be there somewhere far away for 9.5 months. That you will have to leave your family, friends and everything else, and go somewhere where you will have to get used to a completely different situation, completely new people, a new routine, new rules, a new language, an unknown environment… and when you arrive, you are facing the hardest: the next 9 and a half months – that is your reality. But this time it wasn’t the case with me, because things are always very different, if in times of difficulty you remember that there is always someone by your side whom you can turn to for advice, someone who constantly supports you and always sincerely understands you. And in my case it is my sending organization: Volunteer Center Skopje.
What do I have to say to all those who want to volunteer somewhere?: There are as many projects, „sending” and „hosting” organizations around the world as you want, it’s not a problem to find something for you today, but don’t think of this text as someone who just brags about everything and everyone around him, but as the saying goes: „Listen to a fool, not a fortuneteller.” I have 8 years of project experience, but only on this project here I live what I always imagined (although, I wouldn’t say that I’m very creative when it comes to chopping, drawing and making origami, but the important thing is that I want to learn, and everyone else around me supports and helps me in this as much as possible.”
